About Us

Jeannie McEwan graduated with a law degree from the University of Sydney and is the Principal Lawyer of JC McEwan Lawyers.

Jeannie has worked in the area of Estate Planning, Estate Administration and Estate Litigation for both deceased’s estates and financially managed clients since her admission to practice as a Lawyer in 2000.  Jeannie has worked in both the government sector and private sector with reputable mid-tier national law firms. 

Jeannie is also passionate about fighting for fair and achieving the best possible outcome for her clients.  She is personable, compassionate and empathetic towards her clients and of her clients’ circumstances.  She understands that clients who come to her have lost their loved ones and additionally, have to deal with fighting for what is fair for them.

Jeannie has over 20 years of experience in litigation and she has helped many of her clients to fight for what is just and fair and she prides herself on her capacity to make strong connections and help her clients from a diversity of cultural backgrounds. 

Jeannie has been admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and High Court of Australia and she is a member of The Law Society of New South Wales and The Australian Asian Lawyers Society.

Successfully defended and acted in various cases, including :

  • Family provision claim, various issues with regard to the interpretation of the Will, effect of termination of marriage pursuant to s.13 of the Succession Act and competing interests between a former spouse and children.
  • Eviction proceedings and family provision claim by the deceased person’s child.
  • Family provision claim for further provision by a child and carer in a blended family.
  • Misappropriation of funds claim against a child appointed as a financial manager.
  • Family provision claim, involving issues of estrangement between the claimant child and the deceased person.
  • Application to the Crown Solicitor for a cy-pres trust to be set up.
  • Establishing special disability trusts for clients with disabilities.
  • Family provision action on behalf of financially managed clients.
  • Family provision action and constructive trust claim by the deceased person’s child.
  • Proving and admitting informal document to the Supreme Court pursuant to s.8 of the Succession Act 2006 (NSW).
  • Seeking indemnity of costs, family provision claim and issues of estrangement.
  • Testamentary incapacity and family provision claim by the deceased person’s child.
  • Carer’s claims and personal service contract claim against a financially managed client.
  • Family dispute over a memorial plot and appointment of a trustee.
  • Ademption of asset, interpretation of Will involving issue of life tenancy and family provision claim.
  • Issues of foreign domicile, Australian Will, assets and entitlement.
  • Application for rectification of errors in a Will and two Codicils, with Probate granted to both the Will and two Codicils by the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
